What imperial forces did to Tematín after the surrender is told differently in different places: some accounts say the castle was burnt out, others that it was pulled down, and the association that looks after it today says simply that imperial troops damaged it in 1710. The disagreement matters less than the policy behind it, which was the same everywhere — after the uprising, imperial commanders deliberately wrecked castles that rebels might use again. That, and not the Turks, is the real reason so many Slovak castles are ruins. And nobody rebuilt Tematín afterwards, because by the eighteenth century a roofless fortress an hour's climb above the valley was of no use to anyone who could instead put up a warm manor house on the flat.Čo s Tematínom po kapitulácii urobili cisárske jednotky, sa podáva rôzne: niektoré správy hovoria, že hrad vypálili, iné, že ho rozborili, a združenie, ktoré sa oň dnes stará, uvádza jednoducho, že ho cisárske vojská roku 1710 poškodili. Podstatnejší než tento rozpor je zámer, ktorý bol za tým, a ten bol všade rovnaký — po povstaní cisárski velitelia cielene ničili hrady, ktoré by povstalci mohli znova použiť. Práve to, a nie Turci, je skutočný dôvod, prečo je na Slovensku toľko zrúcanín. A nikto Tematín potom neobnovil, lebo v osemnástom storočí už pevnosť bez strechy hodinu chôdze nad dolinou nebola nikomu na nič, keď si mohol postaviť teplú kúriu na rovine.
