The end of Beckov was not a siege. A fire broke out in the houses at the foot of the rock, ran up the slope and gutted the castle: roofs, floors and interiors gone in a day. Nobody rebuilt it, because by then nobody needed a castle — the owners already lived in comfortable manor houses down in the street, and a fortress on a crag had become an expensive nuisance. Even the year is uncertain, and that is worth knowing about history: some sources put the fire in 1709, in the last years of the Rákóczi war, others in 1727, others in 1729. What is not in doubt is that the walls have stood open to the weather ever since, for close to three hundred years.Koniec Beckova neprišiel obliehaním. V domoch na päte brala vypukol požiar, vyšiel po svahu hore a hrad vyhorel: strechy, podlahy aj interiéry zmizli za jediný deň. Nikto ho už neobnovil, lebo hrad vtedy nikto nepotreboval — majitelia dávno bývali v pohodlných kúriách dolu v ulici a pevnosť na brale sa stala drahou príťažou. Neistý je aj samotný rok, a to je na dejinách poučné: niektoré pramene kladú požiar do roku 1709, do posledných rokov Rákociho vojny, iné do roku 1727 a ďalšie do roku 1729. O čom pochybnosti nie sú: múry odvtedy stoja otvorené počasiu, takmer tristo rokov.
