Today Nové Zámky is a district town of about 35,600 people, still bilingual, still living off the railway junction, engineering, food processing and the hot water in the aquifer under the lowland. The fortress is gone, but the town kept the shape the fortress left behind: look at a map of the centre and the streets still trace the angles of the bastions. It is one of the few places in Slovakia where you can read a vanished building straight off a street plan.Dnes sú Nové Zámky okresným mestom s približne 35 600 obyvateľmi, stále dvojjazyčným, stále živeným železničným uzlom, strojárstvom, potravinárstvom a termálnou vodou hlboko pod nížinou. Pevnosť je preč, ale mesto si podržalo tvar, ktorý po nej zostal: pozrite sa na mapu centra a ulice dodnes kopírujú uhly bastiónov. Je to jedno z mála miest na Slovensku, kde sa zaniknutá stavba dá prečítať priamo z pôdorysu ulíc.
