Around 828 Prince Pribina had a Christian church consecrated at Nitra by the archbishop of Salzburg — the first one recorded anywhere in what is now Slovakia. Tradition places that church on this rock and it may well have stood here, but archaeology has not settled the question and you will meet more than one candidate site in the books. What is not in doubt is the fortress itself, reported in writing in 871, and the bishopric founded here in 880 by papal bull with Wiching as its bishop. Great Moravia collapsed in the first decade of the tenth century and the bishopric lapsed with it — but the idea that this hill belongs to the church was already fixed.Okolo roku 828 dal knieža Pribina v Nitre vysvätiť kresťanský kostol — posvätil ho salzburský arcibiskup a je to prvý doložený kostol na území dnešného Slovenska. Tradícia ho kladie práve na toto bralo a možno tu naozaj stál, archeológia to však dodnes nerozhodla a v odbornej literatúre nájdete viacero možných miest. Isté je samo hradisko, o ktorom máme písomné správy z roku 871, aj biskupstvo, ktoré tu roku 880 založila pápežská bula a na jeho čelo postavila Wichinga. Veľká Morava sa v prvom desaťročí 10. storočia rozpadla a biskupstvo zaniklo s ňou — predstava, že tento kopec patrí cirkvi, však už zostala.
