Nitra CastleNitriansky hrad

A rock above the Nitra river at the foot of Zobor, with the lanes of the Upper Town falling away beneath it — the oldest address in one of the oldest towns in Slovakia. This is where a prince named Pribina had a church consecrated around 828, and where the country's oldest bishopric — founded in 880, restored in the early twelfth century — has had its seat ever since. Being a bishop's residence as much as a fortress is exactly why it is not a ruin. Práve tu dal knieža Pribina okolo roku 828 vysvätiť kostol a práve tu má odvtedy sídlo najstaršie biskupstvo v krajine — založené roku 880 a obnovené začiatkom 12. storočia.
