This castle is not a museum that used to be something else. The Diocese of Nitra still has its seat in the bishop's palace, St Emmeram's is still the cathedral of a living diocese, and the Diocesan Museum beside the palace shows the manuscripts, silver and finds that belong to the hill. Restoration of the walls, the gate and the cathedral has run for decades and is not finished. That is the whole point of the place: almost every other great Slovak castle is a ruin because at some moment nobody needed it any more, and here that moment has never come.Tento hrad nie je múzeum, ktoré kedysi bývalo niečím iným. V biskupskom paláci dodnes sídli Nitrianske biskupstvo, Kostol svätého Emeráma je stále katedrálou živej diecézy a Diecézne múzeum vedľa paláca vystavuje rukopisy, striebro a nálezy, ktoré ku kopcu patria. Obnova múrov, brány a katedrály beží celé desaťročia a stále sa neskončila. Presne o tom je toto miesto: takmer každý iný veľký slovenský hrad je zrúcaninou preto, že v istej chvíli ho už nikto nepotreboval — a tu taká chvíľa nikdy nenastala.
