The Mongol invasionVpád Mongolov
OchtináOchtiná
Ochtiná's first written mention dates from 1243 — the same year as Plešivec and Štítnik, two years after the Mongol invasion, when King Béla IV was reorganising a kingdom an enemy army had just ridden through. That cluster of dates is not a coincidence, but it is not proof that the villages were new either: a charter records a grant or a boundary, so it tells you when a place became legally interesting, not when the first family cleared the first field. What made this valley interesting was iron. Ore lay in the hills, the wood for charcoal covered them, and streams turned the hammers.
