Strážske had about 4,200 inhabitants at the end of 2025, down from roughly 4,500 at the start of the century — the ordinary demographic curve of an eastern Slovak industrial town. It is far better connected by rail than its size would suggest, which is the whole reason it exists. It is not a sightseeing town and does not pretend to be; what it is genuinely useful for is position, with Brekov castle on its white limestone crag up the road to Humenné, and the Vihorlat and Zemplínska šírava half an hour to the east. Nie je to mesto pre turistov a ani sa tak netvári; naozaj užitočné je svojou polohou — Brekovský hrad na bielom vápencovom brale pri ceste do Humenného, Vihorlat a Zemplínska šírava pol hodiny na východ. Jeho skutočný pamätník je pod zemou, neviditeľný, a štát naň rozpočtuje peniaze od čias, keď väčšina tunajších školákov ešte nebola na svete.
