1871–1874 The railway arrivesPríde železnica

The railway built through this valley in 1871–1874, running north from Michalovce towards Medzilaborce and the Galician frontier, is the reason there is a town here at all — though nobody could have known it for another eighty years. A second line later came in from the west, from Prešov by way of Vranov nad Topľou, and the two met at Strážske. In the nineteenth century that meant a station and a little trade. In the 1950s it meant a map with a junction on it that a central planner could point at.Železnica postavená týmto údolím v rokoch 1871 – 1874, ktorá vedie z Michaloviec na sever k Medzilaborciam a haličskej hranici, je dôvodom, prečo tu vôbec je mesto — hoci to vtedy nikto nemohol tušiť ešte ďalších osemdesiat rokov. Neskôr sem od západu, z Prešova cez Vranov nad Topľou, pribudla druhá trať a obe sa stretli v Strážskom. V 19. storočí to znamenalo stanicu a trochu obchodu. V 50. rokoch 20. storočia to znamenalo mapu s uzlom, na ktorý mohol ústredný plánovač ukázať prstom.
