In 1773 fire took the castle on the rock — the same year a fire damaged the parish church down in the village. Slovak sources say Wolfgang Máriássy had part of it repaired in 1789; English ones say simply that it was not used after the fire. Either way nobody lived in it again, and from then on it fell in slowly. That is the ordinary end of a Slovak castle, and it is worth saying out loud because the guidebook version is usually different: no army destroyed this one. It was a fire, at a moment when the family already had a better house at the bottom of the hill and no reason to rebuild the old one.Roku 1773 vzal hrad na skale požiar — v tom istom roku poškodil oheň aj farský kostol dole v dedine. Slovenské zdroje uvádzajú, že Wolfgang Máriássy dal časť hradu roku 1789 opraviť; anglické hovoria jednoducho, že po požiari sa už nepoužíval. Tak či onak v ňom už nikto nebýval a odvtedy pomaly pustol. Takto sa slovenský hrad končí najčastejšie a stojí za to povedať to nahlas, lebo verzia zo sprievodcov býva iná: tento nezničila žiadna armáda. Bol to požiar — v čase, keď rodina už mala lepší dom pod kopcom a nijaký dôvod stavať ten starý nanovo.
