MarkušovceMarkušovce
Between 1770 and 1775 Wolfgang Máriássy had the manor modernised in the rococo taste — new windows, new plasterwork, new interiors — and laid out a formal garden dropping away from it in terraces. In 1778 he finished the thing Markušovce is known for: a small free-standing summer pavilion, a letohrádok, at the bottom of that garden. It has been called the Dardanely for as long as anyone can trace, after the strait between Europe and Asia, and nobody is sure why; that age liked its garden buildings to sound faraway. A family that began in a tower on a rock was now building a room purely for taking coffee and playing music in a garden.V rokoch 1770 – 1775 dal Wolfgang Máriássy kaštieľ zmodernizovať v rokokovom vkuse — nové okná, nové štukatúry, nové interiéry — a založil pod ním francúzsku záhradu klesajúcu po terasách. Roku 1778 dokončil to, čím sú Markušovce známe: malý voľne stojaci letohrádok na konci tejto záhrady. Volá sa Dardanely, odkedy siaha pamäť, podľa úžiny medzi Európou a Áziou, a nikto presne nevie prečo; tá doba mala rada, keď jej záhradné stavby zneli exoticky. Rod, ktorý začínal vo veži na skale, si teraz staval miestnosť čisto na kávu a muziku v záhrade.
