The Mongol invasionVpád Mongolov

1241 Why there is a castle here at allPrečo tu vôbec stojí hrad

MarkušovceMarkušovce

In 1241 the Mongol army destroyed the Hungarian king's forces and rode across the kingdom, and Béla IV learned the lesson the hard way: wooden forts and open villages could not be held, stone castles could. In the decades after the invasion he handed out land in the Spiš on condition that the men who took it built in stone. Almost every castle you can see in this region, this one included, is the result. It is worth getting this the right way round — Markušovce was not destroyed by the Mongols, it exists because of what they forced a king to do.Roku 1241 zničilo mongolské vojsko sily uhorského kráľa a prehnalo sa kráľovstvom; Belo IV. sa poučil tvrdo — drevené hrádky a otvorené dediny sa udržať nedali, kamenné hrady áno.
