The railway from Pressburg towards Pest was built through Senec in the middle of the nineteenth century, and the town grew along it: from under three thousand people in 1869 to over five and a half thousand by 1930. The same railway dug the lakes, though nobody meant to. Gravel for the embankments and the track bed was quarried straight out of the plain here; the pits went below the water table and filled with clean groundwater, and that is the entire origin of Slnečné jazerá, the Sunny Lakes.Železnicu z Prešporka smerom na Pešť postavili cez Senec v polovici 19. storočia a mesto pozdĺž nej rástlo: z necelých troch tisíc obyvateľov v roku 1869 na vyše päť a pol tisíca v roku 1930. Tá istá železnica vykopala aj jazerá, hoci to nikto nezamýšľal. Štrk na násypy a koľajové lôžko sa ťažil rovno tu z roviny; jamy zašli pod hladinu podzemnej vody a naplnili sa čistou spodnou vodou — a to je celý pôvod Slnečných jazier.
