On 25 May 1856 Ján Bahýľ was born in this village, and on 18 April 1857 Terézia Vansová was born here too, the daughter of the Lutheran pastor Samuel Medvecký. They grew up in a village that had just seen serfdom abolished — the revolution of 1848–49 ended it across the kingdom — and in a generation of Slovaks arguing about whether a Slovak nation existed at all. Neither of them stayed. He went into the Austro-Hungarian army; she married the Lutheran pastor Ján Vansa in 1875 and moved to his parish. Both did the thing they are remembered for somewhere else, and both are remembered here.25. mája 1856 sa v tejto dedine narodil Ján Bahýľ a 18. apríla 1857 sa tu narodila aj Terézia Vansová, dcéra evanjelického farára Samuela Medveckého. Vyrastali v obci, ktorá práve zažila zrušenie poddanstva — revolúcia rokov 1848 – 1849 ho v celom kráľovstve ukončila — a v generácii Slovákov, ktorá sa dohadovala, či slovenský národ vôbec existuje. Ani jeden z nich nezostal doma. On odišiel do rakúsko-uhorskej armády, ona sa v roku 1875 vydala za evanjelického farára Jána Vansu a odišla do jeho farnosti. To, čím sa preslávili, urobili obaja inde — a obaja sa pripomínajú tu.
