The parish church of St John the Baptist was put up in 1595–1597: a single-nave Renaissance building with a square-ended sanctuary and a tower set against the front. Those were the decades when most of central Slovakia — its mining towns and the German-speaking miners in them — had turned Lutheran, and when the Ottoman frontier lay only a few days' ride to the south. A small hill village that builds itself a stone church with a tower in such a century is saying that it means to stay.Farský kostol svätého Jána Krstiteľa postavili v rokoch 1595 – 1597: jednoloďová renesančná stavba s pravouhlo ukončeným presbytériom a vežou pristavanou k priečeliu. Boli to desaťročia, keď väčšina stredného Slovenska — banské mestá aj nemeckí baníci v nich — prešla na luteránsku vieru a keď osmanská hranica ležala na juh odtiaľto len pár dní jazdy. Malá horská dedina, ktorá si v takom storočí postaví kamenný kostol s vežou, tým hovorí, že tu mieni zostať.
