The Treaty of Trianon of 4 June 1920 awarded the castle and the villages of Somoskő and Somoskőújfalu below it to Czechoslovakia. Hungary appealed, and after several years of argument the League of Nations returned the two villages; the handover was signed on 15 February 1924. The castle, however, was left on the Czechoslovak side. That is why the line here follows neither a river nor a watershed: it threads between a ruin and the houses that had always lived beneath it, and it is still doing so today.Trianonská zmluva zo 4. júna 1920 priznala hrad aj dediny Somoskő a Somoskőújfalu pod ním Československu. Maďarsko sa odvolalo a po niekoľkých rokoch dohadovania Spoločnosť národov obe dediny vrátila; odovzdanie podpísali 15. februára 1924. Hrad však zostal na československej strane. Preto tunajšia čiara nesleduje ani rieku, ani rozvodie: prevlieka sa medzi zrúcaninou a domami, ktoré pod ňou odjakživa stáli — a robí to dodnes.
