The long war that began in 1593 pushed the frontier back south again. On 15 December 1593 an imperial army under Krištof Tiefenbach retook Modrý Kameň — and this is one of the cases where "destroyed by the Turks" is actually true: the Ottoman garrison blew the castle up as they abandoned it, and what the imperial troops got back was a wreck. It matters that this one is documented, because the same phrase is repeated about dozens of Slovak castles where the real damage was done by fire, by neglect, or by a Habsburg order to demolish.Dlhá vojna, ktorá sa začala roku 1593, posunula hranicu opäť na juh. Pätnásteho decembra 1593 dobylo Modrý Kameň späť cisárske vojsko Krištofa Tiefenbacha — a toto je jeden z mála prípadov, keď veta „zničili ho Turci“ naozaj platí: osmanská posádka hrad pri odchode vyhodila do vzduchu a cisárski dostali späť trosku. Že je to tu doložené, je dôležité, lebo tú istú vetu opakujeme o desiatkach slovenských hradov, ktoré v skutočnosti zničil požiar, zanedbanie alebo habsburský rozkaz na zbúranie.
