Divín was built at the turn of the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, in the wave of stone fortification that followed the Mongol invasion of 1241, on a ridge above the road that runs from the Novohrad basin up toward the mining country. It was a working castle rather than a grand one: an upper ward on the rock, an outer enclosure below it, and walls that were thickened again every time artillery got better.Divín postavili na prelome trinásteho a štrnásteho storočia, počas vlny kamenného opevňovania po mongolskom vpáde roku 1241, na hrebeni nad cestou, ktorá vedie z novohradskej kotliny hore k banským krajom.
