The nineteenth century took away the other half of the family fortune. Mining for silver and gold in the Boca valley wound down and stopped — sources disagree about when, giving dates as far apart as 1824 and 1881, but the direction is not in doubt. In the 1870s cholera went through the village and killed a great many people; the year is given as 1873 in one account and 1875 in another. Cholera is a disease of contaminated water, and in a village built around springs that is a grim irony worth pausing on: the water that made the place famous was not the water people drank.Devätnáste storočie vzalo rodinám aj druhú polovicu majetku.
