Liptovský JánLiptovský Ján
The old church was rebuilt for Catholic use in 1735, in the long campaign by which the Habsburgs pulled the Kingdom of Hungary back to Rome. Then in 1781 Emperor Joseph II issued the Patent of Toleration, which let Lutherans and Calvinists build churches again — with conditions: no tower, no bells, no door onto the main street. The Lutherans of Liptovský Ján built theirs within a few years of the patent; sources give 1783 and 1785. That is why a village of this size has two churches, and why one of them looks like a barn from the outside: the law required it.Starý kostol bol roku 1735 prestavaný pre katolícku bohoslužbu, v rámci dlhej kampane, ktorou Habsburgovci vracali Uhorsko k Rímu. Roku 1781 potom cisár Jozef II. vydal tolerančný patent, ktorý evanjelikom a kalvínom opäť dovolil stavať kostoly — s podmienkami: bez veže, bez zvonov, bez vchodu z hlavnej ulice. Evanjelici v Liptovskom Jáne si svoj postavili v priebehu niekoľkých rokov po patente; zdroje uvádzajú rok 1783 aj 1785. Preto má obec tejto veľkosti dva kostoly — a preto jeden z nich zvonku pripomína stodolu: prikazoval to zákon.
