The oldest surviving manor house in the village, the one called Kaštieľ Za vodou — the manor beyond the water — dates from the late fifteenth century. It is small, and that is the whole point. A family that keeps dividing its estate between sons does not build one castle; it builds many modest houses, each big enough for one branch. That is the mechanism that produced the street you can walk down today, and it is why Liptovský Ján, unlike almost every comparable place, has manor houses instead of a fortress.Najstaršia zachovaná kúria v obci, Kaštieľ Za vodou, pochádza z konca 15. storočia. Je malá — a práve v tom je pointa. Rod, ktorý si majetok stále delí medzi synov, nepostaví jeden hrad; postaví veľa skromných domov, každý akurát pre jednu vetvu. Presne tento mechanizmus vytvoril ulicu, po ktorej sa dnes dá prejsť, a preto má Liptovský Ján na rozdiel od takmer každého porovnateľného miesta kúrie namiesto pevnosti.
