In 1554 a Latin school for the sons of the nobility was founded in the village — a remarkable thing for a settlement this size, and a direct product of the Reformation, which put enormous weight on reading and on schools. The Ňáriovský kaštieľ was built in the second half of the same century. While the Ottoman wars ground on in the south, Liptov was far behind the lines and its gentry spent the century educating themselves and quarrelling over inheritances rather than fighting Turks.Roku 1554 vznikla v obci latinská škola pre synov zemanov — na sídlo tejto veľkosti pozoruhodná vec a priamy dôsledok reformácie, ktorá kládla obrovský dôraz na čítanie a na školy. V druhej polovici toho istého storočia postavili Ňáriovský kaštieľ. Kým sa na juhu vliekli osmanské vojny, Liptov ležal ďaleko za frontom a jeho zemania trávili storočie vzdelávaním a dedičskými spormi, nie bojom s Turkami.
