The village enters written history in the same way as most of Liptov: as a royal gift after the Mongol invasion. King Béla IV (who reigned 1235–1270) granted this land to a nobleman named Marcel, and King Ladislav IV confirmed the gift by charter in 1279. From its owner the settlement took the name Marcelová. Nothing here is called Bešeňová yet — that comes two generations later, and from a completely different direction.Obec vstupuje do písaných dejín rovnako ako väčšina Liptova — ako kráľovský dar po mongolskom vpáde. Kráľ Belo IV. (vládol v rokoch 1235 – 1270) daroval túto pôdu zemanovi menom Marcel a kráľ Ladislav IV. darovanie potvrdil listinou roku 1279. Podľa majiteľa sa osada volala Marcelová. Nič sa tu ešte nevolá Bešeňová — to príde o dve generácie neskôr a celkom z inej strany.
