In 1703 the castle was taken by the insurgent army of Francis II Rákóczi, whose rising against the Habsburgs held much of what is now Slovakia for eight years. In 1707, retreating in front of imperial troops, the insurgents demolished Likava on Rákóczi's own order, so that the enemy could not use it as a stronghold. That detail is worth holding on to, because at half the ruins in this country you will be told the Turks did it. Here the Ottomans had nothing whatever to do with it: the people who wrecked Likava were the garrison that held it, acting on written orders from their own commander. It has been a ruin from that day to this.V roku 1703 obsadili hrad povstalecké vojská Františka II. Rákócziho, ktorého povstanie proti Habsburgovcom držalo veľkú časť dnešného Slovenska osem rokov. V roku 1707 pri ústupe pred cisárskymi vojskami povstalci Likavu na Rákócziho vlastný rozkaz zbúrali, aby ju nepriateľ nemohol použiť ako oporný bod. Tento detail sa oplatí zapamätať, lebo pri polovici našich zrúcanín vám povedia, že to boli Turci. Tu s tým Osmani nemali spoločné vôbec nič: Likavu zničila posádka, ktorá ju držala, na písomný rozkaz vlastného veliteľa. Zrúcaninou je odvtedy až dodnes.
