Smolenice CastleSmolenický zámok

The state took the castle in 1945, and on 26 June 1953 it became the property of the Slovak Academy of Sciences. The Academy did what the Pálffys had never managed: it finished and furnished the interiors and put the building to work as a congress centre for scientific meetings. A private dream begun for one family ended up as the place where the country's physicists, chemists and historians argue with each other. Very few Slovak castles got a second life at all, and almost none got one like this.Štát prevzal zámok roku 1945 a 26. júna 1953 sa stal majetkom Slovenskej akadémie vied. Akadémia dokázala to, čo Pálfiovci nikdy: interiéry dokončila, zariadila a budove dala prácu — kongresové centrum pre vedecké stretnutia. Zo súkromného sna jedného rodu sa stalo miesto, kde sa medzi sebou dohadujú slovenskí fyzici, chemici a historici. Druhý život dostalo len málo slovenských hradov a takýto takmer žiadny.
