From about 1911 Count Jozef Pálffy built in earnest, to designs by the architect Jozef Hubert — the names of Ignác Alpár and István Möller are attached to the project too — with Kreuzenstein in Lower Austria as the model. This was not a restoration of the old castle; it was a new house wearing medieval clothes, and it went up on the medieval foundations. Then the First World War stopped the work, and the empire the house had been designed for did not survive it: some rooms were only provisionally fitted out and stayed that way. Nešlo o obnovu starého hradu, ale o nové sídlo v stredovekom prezlečení, postavené na stredovekých základoch. Potom stavbu zastavila prvá svetová vojna a ríša, pre ktorú sídlo vznikalo, ju neprežila: niektoré miestnosti ostali upravené len provizórne a tak aj zostali. Zastrešená, no prázdna škrupina tu stála celú generáciu — rozprávkový zámok, ktorému sa minulo storočie.
