In 1946, with the war barely over, fire took the village again: more than seventy per cent of the houses burned. Between the two fires, almost nothing built of wood came through, and that is the plain reason Lendak has no folk-architecture reserve like Ždiar over the hill. The old village was not preserved, it was replaced — twice — by the one people actually needed to live in. Under communism the land was collectivised and the men went out to the building trades and to jobs in Kežmarok, Poprad and the Tatra resorts. The costume and the dialect were carried on at home, by everybody, and not by a folklore group.Roku 1946, keď vojna sotva skončila, si oheň dedinu vzal znova: zhorelo vyše sedemdesiat percent domov. Medzi dvoma požiarmi neprežilo z dreveného takmer nič, a to je jednoduchý dôvod, prečo Lendak nemá rezerváciu ľudovej architektúry ako Ždiar za kopcom. Stará dedina sa nezakonzervovala, dvakrát ju nahradila tá, v ktorej ľudia naozaj potrebovali bývať. Za komunizmu pôdu združili do družstva a chlapi chodili na stavby a za prácou do Kežmarku, Popradu a tatranských stredísk. Kroj a nárečie sa niesli ďalej doma, cez všetkých, nie cez folklórny súbor.
