The Carpathian–Dukla operation ran straight down this road. A large tank battle was fought beside the village in the autumn of 1944, the monastery was destroyed in the fighting, and Ladomirová was liberated on 26 November 1944 — almost a month after the operation had officially been called off, which tells you how slowly the last kilometres were taken. The village was left almost entirely destroyed; its population fell from 879 in 1940 to 599 in 1948. The wooden church survived and was repaired in 1946. On 11 December 1944 the Czech composer Vít Nejedlý, who ran the Czechoslovak corps' army ensemble, conducted his last concert in the village inn; he died a few weeks later, and a plaque marks the spot.
