In September 1914 Russian troops came over the Dukla and held much of north-eastern Slovakia, and for the next six months the front swung up and down this road. Svidník, five kilometres downstream, was burned that November by the retreating Austro-Hungarian army, and the villages on either side of Ladomirová were dug into trenches that are still traceable in the woods. The village's own losses in that war are not recorded in the sources available here — but nobody living on the Dukla road in the winter of 1914–15 was out of it. It was the rehearsal for what happened thirty years later on exactly the same ground.V septembri 1914 prišli cez Duklu ruské vojská a ovládli veľkú časť severovýchodného Slovenska; nasledujúcich šesť mesiacov sa front po tejto ceste hojdal hore a dole. Svidník päť kilometrov po prúde vypálila v novembri ustupujúca rakúsko-uhorská armáda a dediny po oboch stranách Ladomirovej boli rozryté zákopmi, ktoré sa v lesoch dajú nájsť dodnes. Vlastné straty obce v tejto vojne dostupné pramene neuvádzajú — ale nikto, kto v zime 1914 – 15 býval pri duklianskej ceste, nebol mimo nej. Bola to generálka na to, čo sa o tridsať rokov odohralo na tom istom mieste.
