The village first appears in writing in 1414 as Ladamerwagasa — "Ladomír's clearing", a name that tells you exactly how it began: somebody cut the forest here. It was still exempt from tax in 1427, which is what a young settlement looked like. What made it important was money: royal tolls were being collected here before 1458 on the crossing into Poland over the Dukla, and in 1458 the records name a castellum, a small fortified house the Cudars had built beside the road both to guard it and to take the duty. Someone later buried a pot with about five gold ducats of King Matthias Corvinus nearby; one of them is in the museum at Svidník.
