In 1950 the communist state dissolved the Greek Catholic Church and gave its buildings to the Orthodox Church — a decision that mattered enormously in a district where most villages are of the eastern rite; it was reversed only in 1968. A collective farm was set up in 1953, and at the end of the 1950s an electronics works of the Tesla combine was built here. That factory changed Stropkov more than anything since the market: the town had 3,044 people in 1930 and 9,719 by 1991, most of them in blocks of flats put up for the workforce.Roku 1950 komunistický štát zrušil gréckokatolícku cirkev a jej chrámy dal pravoslávnej cirkvi — rozhodnutie, ktoré v okrese, kde je väčšina dedín východného obradu, znamenalo veľmi veľa; zvrátené bolo až roku 1968.
