The estate was confiscated in 1945 and the castle passed to the state, which put it in the hands of the National Cultural Commission and turned it into a museum. Here is the strange luck of Červený Kameň: because the owners fled rather than sold up, the furniture, the portraits, the library and the armoury stayed exactly where they were — and the state that took them wanted precisely that, a museum of how the aristocracy had lived, today the Slovak National Museum's collection of historical furniture. The castle was protected as a cultural monument in 1949 and declared a national cultural monument on 18 March 1970. Through forty years of communism the family name became a museum label, but the building was maintained instead of being left to fall in, which is more than most Slovak castles got.Panstvo roku 1945 skonfiškovali a hrad prešiel na štát, ktorý ho zveril Národnej kultúrnej komisii a urobil z neho múzeum. V tom je zvláštne šťastie Červeného Kameňa: keďže majitelia ušli a nič nerozpredali, nábytok, portréty, knižnica aj zbrojnica ostali presne tam, kde boli — a štát, ktorý ich prevzal, chcel práve toto: múzeum o tom, ako žila šľachta, dnes zbierku historického nábytku Slovenského národného múzea. Roku 1949 dostal hrad ochranu ako kultúrna pamiatka a 18. marca 1970 ho vyhlásili za národnú kultúrnu pamiatku. Za štyridsať rokov komunizmu sa z rodinného mena stal popisok v múzeu, budovu však udržiavali a nenechali ju spadnúť — čo je viac, než sa ušlo väčšine slovenských hradov.
