1919 and 11 February 1929 The state buys the estate — and the cold recordŠtát kupuje panstvo — a rekord v mraze

In 1919 the new Czechoslovak state bought the Vígľaš great estate, and the castle stopped being anybody's residence: it became offices, housing both the State Forest Administration and the State Property Administration of Vígľaš. That is a very ordinary fate for a castle, and it is also why the building was maintained at all between the wars. One other thing happened here in those years that every Slovak schoolchild knows the number for: on 11 February 1929, at Vígľaš-Pstruša, a temperature of −41 °C was measured — still the lowest ever recorded in Slovakia. A monument to the reading was unveiled on the spot in 2009.V roku 1919 kúpil vígľašský veľkostatok nový československý štát a zámok prestal byť čímkoľvek sídlom: stali sa z neho úrady, sídlila v ňom Správa štátnych lesov aj Správa štátnych majetkov Vígľaš. Je to celkom obyčajný osud hradu — a zároveň dôvod, prečo sa o budovu medzi vojnami vôbec niekto staral. V tých rokoch sa tu stalo ešte niečo, čoho číslo pozná každý slovenský školák: 11. februára 1929 namerali na Vígľaši-Pstruši teplotu −41 °C — dodnes najnižšiu v dejinách meraní na Slovensku. V roku 2009 na tom mieste odhalili pamätník.
