Vígľaš CastleVígľašský zámok
Vígľaš was raised in the last third of the fourteenth century as a royal hunting castle, a companion piece to Zvolen a few kilometres west. Between them the two seats commanded the hunt in the enormous forests of Zvolen county. King Louis I began it and his son-in-law Sigismund of Luxembourg finished it as a hunting residence — and Sigismund issued a charter here in 1390, which is the oldest written record of the place. Like Zvolen, it was built as a residence that could defend itself rather than as a fortress: an irregular quadrangle of wings closed around a courtyard, with towers at the corners, on a low rise above the river Slatina instead of on a crag.Vígľaš vznikol v poslednej tretine 14. storočia ako kráľovský poľovnícky hrad, náprotivok Zvolena vzdialeného pár kilometrov na západ.
