Dubeň is a long, narrow ridge of the Kysucká vrchovina rising to 613 metres on the northern side of Žilina — it runs almost the whole length of the city, from the Budatín borough at the confluence of the rivers east to Teplička nad Váhom, where the region's carmaking plant sits. It is Žilina's local hill in the fullest sense: marked footpaths climb it from Budatín, Zástranie and Zádubnie, the shortest of them a walk of not much more than a kilometre, and the football stadium down in the city is named for standing beneath it. Since 2018 there has been a wooden lookout tower on the crest — more than twenty-five metres of it, with the city, the Malá Fatra, the Kysuce basin and the reservoirs on the Váh laid out below.Dubeň je dlhý úzky hrebeň Kysuckej vrchoviny, ktorý sa na severnej strane Žiliny dvíha do 613 metrov — tiahne sa takmer celou dĺžkou mesta, od mestskej časti Budatín pri sútoku riek na východ až po Tepličku nad Váhom, kde stojí automobilka regiónu. Je to žilinský domáci kopec v plnom zmysle slova: značkované chodníky naň stúpajú z Budatína, Zástrania aj Zádubnia, ten najkratší je o niečo dlhší než kilometer, a mestský futbalový štadión má meno práve podľa toho, že stojí pod ním. Od roku 2018 je na hrebeni drevená vyhliadková veža — vyše dvadsaťpäť metrov vysoká, s mestom, Malou Fatrou, Kysuckou kotlinou aj priehradami na Váhu rozloženými pod ňou.
The rest of Žilina is a short bus ride west. Down at the foot of the ridge, where the Kysuca meets the Váh, stands Budatín Castle and its regional museum, keeper of the country's best-known collection of tinkers' wirework. The historic core with the arcades of Mariánske námestie is fifteen minutes away by bus; upstream the Váh narrows into the gorge watched by Strečno and the ruin of Starhrad, and south of the city the huge ruin of Lietava spreads along its own ridge. Beyond the gorge lies the Malá Fatra.Zvyšok Žiliny je kúsok autobusom na západ. Dole pod hrebeňom, tam, kde sa Kysuca stretá s Váhom, stojí Budatínsky zámok a v ňom krajské múzeum, strážca najznámejšej zbierky drotárskych prác v krajine. Historické jadro s podlubiami Mariánskeho námestia je autobusom pätnásť minút; proti prúdu sa Váh zužuje do tiesňavy, ktorú strážia Strečno a zrúcanina Starhradu, a južne od mesta sa po vlastnom hrebeni rozťahuje obrovská zrúcanina Lietavy. Za tiesňavou leží Malá Fatra.
