Nine years before the two big centres arrived downtown, Žilina already had one — out on Vysokoškolákov, on the way to the Vlčince housing estate, under the long wooded ridge of Dubeň that gives it its name. Opened in 2001, it was the first modern shopping centre in the city and its region: a single flat level, a supermarket at one end, and a car park in front. It has since been fully refurbished and rebranded, and it has done what few first-generation centres manage — stopped competing with the newer ones and become something more useful instead.Deväť rokov predtým, než v centre pribudli dve veľké centrá, mala Žilina už jedno — vonku na ulici Vysokoškolákov, cestou na sídlisko Vlčince, pod dlhým zalesneným hrebeňom Dubňa, po ktorom nesie meno. Otvorili ho v roku 2001 a bolo prvým moderným obchodným centrom v meste aj v regióne: jedno rovné podlažie, na konci supermarket a pred ním parkovisko. Odvtedy prešlo celkovou rekonštrukciou a zmenou značky a podarilo sa mu to, čo len málokterému centru prvej generácie — prestalo súperiť s novšími a stalo sa namiesto toho užitočnejším.
