The Ottoman centuryOsmanské storočie
Súľov CastleSúľovský hrad
Two things are recorded for the year 1550, and it is not clear whether they are connected. One entry says the castle was destroyed by fire that year and afterwards repaired. Another says that from 1550 it belonged to the Sirmiensis family, who received it as a gift from King Ferdinand I; Zigmund Sirmiensis-Súľovský is the name that appears. Notice who is missing from the whole story so far: the Turks. The Ottoman frontier never reached this stretch of the Váh valley, and Súľov's history is about a road, a family and a fire — which is true of a great many more Slovak ruins than the 'the Turks destroyed it' version admits.K roku 1550 sú zapísané dve veci a nie je jasné, či spolu súvisia.
