A castle was never only a building; it was the centre of a panstvo, an estate of villages, fields, forests and road tolls that paid for it. The Beckov estate was one of the largest on the Váh, and even Nové Mesto nad Váhom, the district town today, belonged to it for centuries as its market settlement. Beckov itself became a mestečko — a market town, with the right to hold fairs and all that came with it: craftsmen, gentry houses and a good deal of self-importance. Almost everything the village is now is a leftover of that status: the width of the street, the churches, and far more noble houses than a farming village would ever have needed.Hrad nikdy nebol iba stavbou; bol strediskom panstva — sústavy dedín, polí, lesov a mýt, ktoré ho živili. Beckovské panstvo patrilo k najväčším na Považí a po stáročia doň patrilo aj Nové Mesto nad Váhom, dnešné okresné mesto, ako jeho trhová osada. Sám Beckov sa stal mestečkom — s právom konať jarmoky a so všetkým, čo k tomu patrilo: remeselníkmi, zemianskymi domami a poriadnou dávkou sebavedomia. Takmer všetko, čím je obec dnes, je zvyškom tohto postavenia: šírka ulice, kostoly a oveľa viac šľachtických domov, než by roľnícka dedina kedy potrebovala.
