Poprad's defining fact is that it is on the way to somewhere else. The High Tatras rise a few kilometres to the north, and the town sits at the point where every route into them converges: the mainline railway along the Spiš basin, the motorway, a small international airport, and — the good bit — the electric mountain railway that climbs from Poprad-Tatry station up to Starý Smokovec and on to Štrbské Pleso and Tatranská Lomnica. Almost everybody who skis, hikes or photographs the Tatras changes here, and a great many of them have an hour to fill while they do it.Popradským určujúcim faktom je, že leží na ceste niekam inam. Pár kilometrov na sever sa dvíhajú Vysoké Tatry a mesto stojí presne tam, kde sa zbiehajú všetky cesty do nich: hlavná železničná trať popod Spiš, diaľnica, malé medzinárodné letisko a — to najlepšie — elektrická horská železnica, ktorá stúpa zo stanice Poprad-Tatry do Starého Smokovca a ďalej na Štrbské Pleso a do Tatranskej Lomnice. Takmer každý, kto v Tatrách lyžuje, chodí po horách alebo fotografuje, tu prestupuje — a veľká časť z nich má pritom hodinu navyše.
Forum opened in 2015 and was built where that hour is actually spent: not on a bypass, but on Námestie sv. Egídia, the long main square at the heart of the town, a short distance from the station. That siting is the whole point of the building. Slovakia spent two decades putting its shopping centres in fields beside dual carriageways; Forum went into the town instead, and the centre of Poprad is measurably busier for it. It was named building of the year in its size category at the Central and Eastern European retail awards for 2015 — an unusual thing for a mall to win, and a fair reflection of the fact that it was designed to be looked at from a square.Forum otvorili v roku 2015 a postavili ho presne tam, kde sa tá hodina naozaj trávi: nie pri obchvate, ale na Námestí sv. Egídia, dlhom hlavnom námestí v srdci mesta, kúsok od stanice. Práve v tomto umiestnení je celý zmysel stavby. Slovensko dve desaťročia stavalo nákupné centrá na lúkach pri rýchlostných cestách; Forum išlo namiesto toho do mesta a centru Popradu to merateľne pridalo na živote. V stredoeurópskych retailových oceneniach za rok 2015 získalo titul stavba roka vo svojej veľkostnej kategórii — pre obchodné centrum nezvyčajné a férové vzhľadom na to, že bolo navrhnuté tak, aby sa naň pozeralo z námestia.
