Poprad is treated by most visitors as a transfer point, which is a mistake — there is a preserved medieval town inside the modern one, a geothermal bathing complex on the edge of it, and the mountains themselves half an hour away by little electric train.Väčšina návštevníkov berie Poprad ako prestupný uzol, a to je chyba — vnútri moderného mesta je zachovaná stredoveká štvrť, na jeho okraji geotermálny kúpeľný areál a samotné hory sú polhodinu cesty malým elektrickým vláčikom.

The single best reason to give Poprad an extra hour. Once an independent Spiš town and now a district of Poprad, Spišská Sobota keeps its long medieval square almost intact — gabled burgher houses, a separate bell tower, and the church of St George, whose winged high altar is attributed to the workshop of Master Pavol of Levoča. Poprad has a large geothermal water park of its own, fed from deep thermal springs, with outdoor pools that stay open through the winter. Steam rising off warm water with snow-covered peaks behind it is one of the definitive Slovak images — and after a long day on a ridge, it is the correct decision.Poprad má vlastný veľký areál geotermálnej vody napájaný z hlbokých termálnych prameňov, s vonkajšími bazénmi otvorenými aj v zime. Para stúpajúca nad teplou vodou so zasneženými štítmi v pozadí patrí k najtypickejším slovenským obrazom — a po dlhom dni na hrebeni je to správne rozhodnutie.
