Under the communist state the castle belonged to the public sector and was treated as a monument: long, slow campaigns of restoration put the roofs back, consolidated the ranges and opened the interiors as the museum of the town. Archaeology inside the walls turned up what everyone knew was underneath — the church and the hospital the castle had been built over. The result is what a visitor walks through today: rooms of town history, guild chests and craft tools, an armoury, and the late-Renaissance castle chapel, which is the room most people remember afterwards.Za socializmu patril hrad verejnému sektoru a zaobchádzalo sa s ním ako s pamiatkou: dlhé, pomalé etapy obnovy mu vrátili strechy, spevnili krídla a sprístupnili interiéry ako mestské múzeum. Archeológia vnútri hradieb našla to, o čom sa vedelo — kostol a špitál, na ktorých hrad vyrástol. Výsledok je to, čím dnes návštevník prechádza: miestnosti mestských dejín, cechové truhlice a remeselnícke náradie, zbrojnica a neskororenesančná hradná kaplnka, ktorú si väčšina ľudí zapamätá najviac.
