Then came the communist state — land collectivized, blocks of flats, and state engineering and food plants that gave the town a second kind of work. In 1981–82, twenty kilometres to the west, construction began on the site of a cleared village called Mochovce of what became Slovakia's second nuclear power station. Levice turned into a town you commuted from, to a building site that would still not be finished forty years later.Potom prišiel komunistický štát — kolektivizácia pôdy, panelové sídliská a štátne strojárske a potravinárske závody, ktoré dali mestu druhý druh práce. V rokoch 1981 – 1982 sa dvadsať kilometrov na západ, na mieste zbúranej dediny Mochovce, začala stavať druhá slovenská atómová elektráreň. Z Levíc sa stalo mesto, z ktorého sa dochádzalo na stavbu, čo o štyridsať rokov neskôr stále nebola hotová.
