Nitra makes a good base for the western castles. One of them is practically the city's own back garden; the other two are a comfortable drive north and north-west, and both are worth a whole day rather than an afternoon.Nitra je dobrým východiskom pre západoslovenské hrady. The seat of Matúš Čák, the great fourteenth-century lord of the north-west, standing on its rock over the Váh and the town. A far bigger fortress than Nitra's, and the natural next stop up the valley.Sídlo Matúša Čáka, veľkého pána severozápadu zo štrnásteho storočia, stojace na brale nad Váhom a nad mestom. Oveľa rozsiahlejšia pevnosť než nitrianska a prirodzená ďalšia zastávka proti prúdu údolia.
