Up Through the BeechesHore cez bučinu
You start from the car park below Šiatorská Bukovinka and walk in, on a marked forest path through beech wood, gaining height steadily. It is not a hard walk and it is not a long one, but it is uphill all the way and the surface is roots and loose basalt — proper shoes matter more here than the distance suggests. The trees keep the castle hidden until quite late, and then the wall appears above you all at once.Vychádza sa z parkoviska pod Šiatorskou Bukovinkou a ide sa pešo po značenom lesnom chodníku bučinou, ktorý rovnomerne stúpa. Nie je to náročná ani dlhá cesta, ale stúpa celý čas a povrch tvoria korene a uvoľnený čadič — pevná obuv je tu dôležitejšia, než sa podľa vzdialenosti zdá. Stromy hrad dlho skrývajú a potom sa múr nad vami objaví naraz.
Inside, the ground plan is small and follows the shape of the rock: an irregular ward squeezed onto the crag, the rebuilt tower at one corner, wall-walks and window openings you can actually use. Look closely at the masonry — the polygonal ends of the basalt columns are visible everywhere in the facing, which is a thing you will not see at any other castle in Slovakia. From the top the view runs south over the border country and the wooded volcanic hills, and on a clear day well out onto the Medves plateau beyond.Vnútri je pôdorys malý a sleduje tvar skaly: nepravidelné nádvorie vtlačené na bralo, obnovená veža v jednom nároží, ochodze a okenné otvory, ktoré sa dajú naozaj využiť. Pozrite si murivo zblízka — mnohouholníkové konce čadičových stĺpov vidno v líci všade, a to na žiadnom inom slovenskom hrade neuvidíte. Z vrchu sa výhľad tiahne na juh nad pohraničný kraj a zalesnené sopečné vrchy a za jasného dňa ďaleko na planinu Medveš.
