By the beginning of the nineteenth century Čabraď had no function and no residents. An intact but unwatched fortress an hour's walk from the nearest village is an obvious place to shelter, and every account of the castle says it had filled up with outlaws and vagrants. In 1812 the owner, Count František Jozef Koháry, solved the problem by having his own castle burned, and nobody ever rebuilt it. Treat the tidy motive as tradition rather than proof — stories like this attach themselves easily to abandoned buildings — but the fire itself, and the two centuries of ruin that followed, are not in doubt.Na začiatku 19. storočia nemala Čabraď nijakú funkciu ani nijakých obyvateľov.
