The communist state industrialised leisure the way it industrialised everything else. The first section of the cableway up Chopok went into service in 1949; the second section, reaching the summit ridge, opened on 29 August 1954; and on 29 August 1957 the southern side was linked in, so you could ride over the mountain from Liptov into the Hron valley. Both dates fall on the anniversary of the Uprising, which was not a coincidence. In 1952 the Ice Cave was reopened after new wooden stairs and electric lighting were installed — it had been overshadowed since the Cave of Liberty opened, and this brought it back.Komunistický štát zindustrializoval oddych rovnako ako všetko ostatné.
