The beginnings of Hrušov are not precisely known, but the building is dated to the years right after the Mongols withdrew, and the castle appears in a charter for the first time in 1253. It stands on a rock called Skalka, 482 metres up, above the old road across the Tribeč between the Nitra plain and the mining country of Tekov and the Hron. A garrison up there could see a column coming hours before it arrived, which was the entire point of the site. Here too the invasion of 1241 is the reason the castle exists, not the reason it fell: on this rock there was nothing for the Mongols to burn.Začiatky Hrušova nie sú presne známe, ale jeho stavba sa datuje do rokov tesne po odchode Mongolov a v listinách sa prvý raz spomína v roku 1253.
