This is a building of the mid-2000s and it looks it, in the good sense: simple, legible, without the three-storey atriums and cinema towers of the decade that followed. The organising idea is a single covered street with shopfronts down both sides, daylight brought in from above, and an entrance at each end. You do not need a map, you do not need to remember which level you parked on, and you cannot get lost — three claims that most larger centres cannot make.Je to stavba z polovice dvetisícich rokov a je to na nej vidieť, v dobrom zmysle: jednoduchá, čitateľná, bez trojpodlažných átrií a kinových veží nasledujúceho desaťročia. Nosnou myšlienkou je jedna krytá ulica s výkladmi po oboch stranách, denným svetlom zhora a vstupom na každom konci. Nepotrebujete mapu, nemusíte si pamätať, na ktorom podlaží ste zaparkovali, a nedá sa tu zablúdiť — tri veci, ktoré o sebe väčšina väčších centier povedať nemôže.
Working at town scale also means the practical things are straightforward. Parking is surface parking on the flat, right in front of the doors. The walk from one end of the building to the other is a walk, not an expedition. And because there is a cinema inside, the building has an evening life as well as a daytime one — which in a town where the alternatives after dark are limited is a genuine service.Mestská mierka znamená aj to, že praktické veci sú jednoduché.
