Where the centre on the old-town square had to stack itself up, Optima had land, and it spent it. The building is horizontal — long concourses on a small number of levels, laid out so that the anchors sit at the far ends and pull you the length of the mall past everything in between. Budova je vodorovná — dlhé pasáže na malom počte podlaží, usporiadané tak, aby hlavní nájomcovia sedeli na opačných koncoch a ťahali vás cez celú dĺžku centra popri všetkom ostatnom. Je to klasický pôdorys svojej generácie a funguje presne tak, ako má: prejdete tu viac, než ste zamýšľali.
A wide central atrium with rooflights above it does the work of orientation, and it is where the seasonal displays, the promotions and the school-holiday events all end up. Upstairs sits the multiplex cinema, which changes the rhythm of the whole building: the centre stays busy into the evening long after the shops have closed, and the food court exists partly to serve people waiting for a screening rather than people shopping.Orientáciu zabezpečuje široké centrálne átrium so strešnými svetlíkmi a práve tam sa sústreďujú sezónne výzdoby, akcie aj podujatia počas školských prázdnin. Outside, the site is what you expect of the type: a large surface car park under tall lamp standards, service yards at the back, and entrances that address the car park rather than any street. This is not a building that contributes much to a townscape, and it does not pretend to — its architecture is essentially the architecture of the junction it stands on. Aesthetically, the old town wins. Practically, on a wet Saturday with children in the car, this one does.Vonku vyzerá areál presne tak, ako pri tomto type očakávate: veľké parkovisko pod vysokými stožiarmi osvetlenia, zásobovacie dvory vzadu a vstupy obrátené k parkovisku, nie k nejakej ulici. Nie je to budova, ktorá by mestskej scenérii veľa dávala, a ani sa o to nesnaží — jej architektúrou je v podstate architektúra križovatky, na ktorej stojí. Esteticky vyhráva staré mesto. Prakticky, v daždivú sobotu s deťmi v aute, vyhráva táto.
