Cassovia

Cassovia is what Košice was called in Latin, in the charters and on the seals of a city that has also been Kassa and Kaschau. It is also the name of the first big shopping centre the city ever had, opened in August 2001 on a southern side street whose own name remembers a powder magazine. Two decades on it is neither the biggest nor the smartest centre in Košice — it is the one people drive to when they need something that will not fit in a shopping bag.Cassovia je latinský názov Košíc, meno z listín a pečatí mesta, ktoré bolo aj Kassou a Kaschau. Je to zároveň názov prvého veľkého nákupného centra, aké mesto malo, otvoreného v auguste 2001 na južnej ulici, ktorej vlastný názov pripomína niekdajšiu prachárňu. Po dvoch desaťročiach to nie je ani najväčšie, ani najelegantnejšie centrum v Košiciach — je to to, kam ľudia prídu autom, keď potrebujú niečo, čo sa do nákupnej tašky nezmestí.
